Associate's degrees are available in various subjects, so you can specialize in a specific career field. The degrees are classified as occupational and liberal arts. An occupational associate's degree is sometimes called a career or professional degree. It is designed for career preparation so you can immediately enter the workforce, although some degrees can transfer to a four year college or university. Some examples of occupational degrees are Electronics, Computers, Engineering, and Radio and Television Broadcasting. While studying for an occupational degree, there are usually fewer general education credits required.

A liberal arts associate's degree is also known as a transfer degree.
